Dead Battery

Monday, April 28th, 2008

My wonderful husband managed to clean up my mess and restore our deleted pictures….However, our camera battery is now dead so that I could not take an action shot of my little angel before bedtime tonight.

Oh well, I’ve decided  instead to insert a favorite shot from one year ago. Gaby Kate on her first Easter, wearing one of her MANY hats and looking quite stylish for a 6-month-old:

In an attempt to add a picture today, I managed to delete at least 3. I am technically-challenged, so this comes as no surprise to me. Luckily, I am married to the Blog-Fixer, who hopefully will have the deleted pictures restored soon. I’m sure he has nothing else to do today other than fix my mistakes…..Ugh~

State of the Blog

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Today our blog is 1 week old. We are not celebrating with a cake or candles, but instead we offer you these trivial stats:

Visitors from 13 states so far (TX, LA, AR, OK, MS, MO, KS, CA, NJ, NH, TN, GA, and IL). We’re guessing that the next 13 states will come a bit more slowly, but we think it’s an encouraging start.

11 current subscribers, some of which are not relatives!

Over 200 hits on our page (not including our own visits).

Now that you’re superimpressed or superunimpressed, go have a fun Sunday….More to come later.

Mornin’!

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

What an incredible day.  We get about a half dozen of these a year, it seems, in Texas.  I suppose it is these few precious days during the year that make us able to bear the god-awful heat in July and August.  Perhaps I need to talk to God, or maybe my Alderman or Ombudsman at least and see if we can dial in a few more of these.

GK LOVES the car swing that Papa gave her.  When we went outside this morning she immediately ran to it…

Afterwards, we slid on the slide, and then of course had her inspect the sprinkler control systems, to ensure they are ready for the hot summer.   GK gives it an A-OK!

Days like this remind me, for some reason, of living on Westwood Avenue in Lexington, Mississippi.  We lived in 3,493 places growing up, so I’m not sure why that particular location is noteworthy, but I remember summers there, distinctly.  The purr of a far away lawnmower, the smell of fresh cut grass, hearing the locust and then seeing the fireflies at dusk.  Hearing our neighbor behind the house ringing the big bell to tell the kids to come home for supper.  It’s not that I don’t remember summers elsewhere, but I can close my eyes and see and smell and hear summers there on Westwood Avenue.  It’s days like today that make me think of that time.   It makes me excited to watch GK grow up.   It is nearly like I’ll get to relive moments like that with her.   Well, at least any time except for July and August.  :)

The Sweetest Words

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Yesterday, my little girl said “I love you” for the first time. To the untrained ear, it came out as “ah-ub-oo”, but seeing the look on her face when she said it left no question in my mind.

I love you, too, Gaby Kate and love being your Mommy. I can’t believe I get to spend my days playing and singing and reading with you on my lap. God is good.

GK is in the Haus

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Gaby has been a little under the weather this week, but has not only managed to demand a bath, but also suggest to the cat that she’d much rather be outside…     Notice she’s reading “Brainy Baby”….(ahem)

I know you don’t believe me, but she really is saying “Peace out” on the last pic…..

Our first blog…

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Well, we’ve finally put down our sippy cups long enough to join the blog-o-sphere.  I feel a little like I’m “giving in”, given that most blogs are about something along the lines of some idiot 20-something having bacon for breakfast and getting some stuck in his teeth or some such banality.  Regardless, we are here.

I’d love to say that I’m going to be a furious blogger, writing volumes every single day about the complexities of life, the challenges of being a mother, a father, or a toddler..   or even a cat, but hey, we’ll be lucky to pump one of these out once a week.  We promise lots of pictures for the family and lots of links to The Onion for those of you who like a laugh.  For all the blog Nazis out there… yes it looks a bit thin and we don’t have all the theme up yet, but it is a work in progress (and no, I’m not putting up those animated GIFs of big construction machines).

Today, my lovely wife and I are celebrating 6 great years of marriage.  Yes, folks, Poo Poo has managed to put up with me for over 10 years now.   I never thought she’d get over the dutch oven, but hey, she is strong!   Both she and GK are suffering some major allergy stuff this week, so we’re going to postpone the Trip To an Overpriced Restaurant to celebrate, but maybe sometime later this week.

We had an awesome time in Mississippi last weekend.  It was really great to see family.  We just don’t get back there enough.  Now that GK is getting older, we’re really going to try to get back there at least once a year, if not more.  We’ll have pictures posted later this week. (The header picture above is from the trip)

That’s quite enough to write for a first entry, don’t you think?
